Observation Assignment # 1: Babies (25 points)

Select a child to observe from the movie “Babies” by Thomas Balmes and answer the following questions based on your observations. The goal of the assignment is to help you develop your skill in objectively observing children’s growth and development from a positive perspective. Teachers use observations to develop curriculum (activities) to enhance and strengthen children’s development and learning. To be an objective observer you must base your observations on what you have seen and avoid opinions about the baby, the family, and cultural practices. Every culture has their own way of raising children based on their beliefs and available resources. There is no “one way” or “perfect way” of raising children.

Tip: Pretend that you are a reporter and you are reporting on the facts and what you have observed without judgement or personal opinion.

Answer the following questions in complete sentences and provide detailed observations to support your answers. This assignment must be typed, saved as a Microsoft Word document, PDF document, or DOCX and submitted as a file upload on Canvas. Emailed assignments will not be accepted.
