Safety and Quality management

Assignment Three includes 3 Parts:

1) Occupation Safety and Risk Assessment,
2) Professional Certificate, and
3) Quality Awards and Product Recalls.

Students are required to review the suggested articles, visit the website and watch a video clip, then complete all 3 Parts. The writing should be in 2-3 pages, 800-1,000 words for all parts, Time New Roman, Font 12, single space. Answers should be practical and logical, referring to your own experience is a plus. Assignments should include in-text citations and references, even for materials given in the assignment.

Your writing should indicate answers for Parts 1, 2, and 3 clearly with proper sub-headings.

Part One: Occupational Safety and Risk Assessment

1.1 Go to the website Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), https://www.osha.gov/, on the top, click on the drop-down menu “Topics”, then review “By Sector”, select only one (1) sector of your interest (e.g. Agriculture, Construction, Healthcare,..) and explore the section. Students will make a brief report on the hazards/risk of the selected sector, and discuss at least three hazard control measures recommended by OSHA. Complete this discussion in writing 2 – 3 paragraphs.

1.2 Go to the website North American Industry Classification System at https://www.census.gov/naics/?58967?yearbck=2022 Look at the Table 2022 NAICS and select 1 sector that you are interested, and copy the Table indicating 2-6 digit code.

For example, selecting ’31-33 Manufacturing’, here is an answer:

Part Two: Professional Certification

You will research professional certificates in your field by visiting their websites, for example, Board of Certified Safety Professionals [ www.bcsp.org], Society of Manufacturing Engineers [ www.sme.org], American Society for Quality [ https://asq.org/cert ], or others.

In your writing, you will select only 1-2 certifications that you already hold and/or that you’re interested to obtain in the future and answer the following three questions in 2-3 paragraphs (between 150-200 words, single space).

– What certifications and organizations are you currently attaining (or none)?

– Are you a member of any organizations? Please indicate the name of the organization and the type of your membership

– What are the certifications that you’re interested in obtaining? Are you qualified to take this certificate exam now? If not, what do you need to do to be able to take the exam? And what is your preliminary plan?

Part Three: Quality Management

1. After visiting the suggested websites in Unit Three, you will write a 1-page paper (300-400 words) on quality management. You will identify a company or organization from which you have received poor-quality products or services, describe the nature of the defects, and suggest ways in which you might improve quality. Also, explain the impact of the Malcolm Baldrige Award and the ISO 9000 on quality management in today’s business. Cite your sources following APA style, latest edition.
2. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) works to save lives and keep families safe by reducing the unreasonable risk of injuries and death associated with consumer products. They obtain the recall of products and arrange for a repair, replacement, and refund of the recalled product. Visit this link https://www.cpsc.gov/About-CPSC, click on “Recalls” (top menu) and briefly list and describe 2 recalls each in 2 categories, a total of 4 recalls in your writing, presenting 1) product name and manufacturer, 2) hazard, 3) remedy, and 4) units
