1. Taking a work-related business to any kind of social media does not look good on the business or the creditability of the person’s work ethics because when you take the business to the internet that shows things about the business that should stay in the business and between you and the business. As this states that customers and other employees see things, I make them not want to work there and also start issues that should not have been started with the employees and the organization. I believe that the company should respond with a professional response and in a manner that helps the post from the employees keep the company’s reputation intact. Nothing can ever come off the internet, so once it is posted it is there forever. The company should make sure that the employee who posted what they did is disciplined, but not made known.
The company has to be careful about how they respond if they respond because if the company responds wrong, it can make the situation worse than it already was. By not responding the customers or other employees may think that the organization is guilty. When the company responds to the post it’s better to make sure that is professional and in a matter that doesn’t make the company look bad and that they won’t lose their customers in the process.
But the company should not post on the employee’s page they should post on their business page and make sure that the situation is explained what actually happened and how it got as far as it did and what the organization is doing to rectify the situation and make sure the solution is being known so that the world knows what happened and that it was blown out of proportion into something it’s not. When the company gets to speak about what actually happened and they way maybe social media will see things have been misunderstood. The company has to show what happened.
Neither the company nor the employee should post things on social media about things happening. I mean I work for a place where I do things they shouldn’t do and treat people in unfair ways, but I don’t go posting the business all over social media. I may not be happy there and I don’t tell the world. I do my work and quietly look for new employment. the culture and motivation there has become very much something that is not where I want to be. I was supposed to be a manager already but there has been no training for months and they have made it hard to even want to be at work. I may be writing about it, but I am not posting about it so that the company becomes boycotted because of the way they are with their employees. I believe the company has the potential to be great and better run but I have seen so many people come and go, and I found out recently that they are trying to get me to quit because I am the highest paid and they aren’t making money so but getting out the higher paid and bringing in lower paid they can make a little money in the end.
2. I have carefully drafted a message to inform employees of a change to the attendance tracking system in your organization that will launch next week. The change only pertains to some technical matters, but may be misunderstood by the workforce. A virus threat shuts down internal email just before your message is ready. I now have a choice of communicating with employees through Facebook or postponing the communication. I am choosing to use a secure members only Facebook page to disseminate the message. I am also going to send the message through text message channels to the employee and make them aware of the virus threat.
My explanation and justification are as follows. No organization should be tied to a single point of failure when we can communicate internally and externally through multiple modes (“Why Your Business Continuity Plan Should Cover Communication and Office Access”, 2022). Going forward management and IT should work together to codify the back up means of communication. However this particular case doesn’t seem to involve proprietary information or trade secrets.
Failing to do so would result in my section being inundated with calls which could have been reduced through communication channels such as facebook or text messaging. This is because the change is not going to be delayed because of the virus threat and the impact to operations and production will be significant if the message doesn’t get out. The organization needs remain flexible and agile through a business continuity plan (“5 reasons business needs business continuity plan”, 2022)
We operate in a high optempo, congested, constrained, and contested environment. Large businesses, medium and small businesses face a litany of threats. The worst decision a leader can make in my opinion is to make no decision. State, non-state and internal threats proliferate the digital communication environment Not having a plan is not a reason to fail to communicate. It should also indicate to leadership that you do have a plan. Bad things happen, business must go on as long as personnel are in a safe environment to do so.
In conclusion, a planned rollout of a system that will have the slightest of changes can be a big deal if it isn’t addressed proactively. If one method of communication fails you should have a backup. Just as if power failed, your company probably has a backup generator. Failing to plan is planning to fail.
